Our dear friend, Libby Murphy, Southern lifestyle author, columnist and cook extraordinaire, shared a wonderful recipe for "George Jones Favorite Sausage Balls" last week on her website http://www.twirlandtaste.com that we will be serving complimentary samples of tonight, Thursday, May 2nd, to Brooks Shaw's Old Country Store restaurant guests after 4:00 pm in honor of George Jones. At her request, we were invited to partner with her in sharing samples of this recipe prepared today by Old Country Store pastry chef Trema Mitchell. See video clip below.

The classic recipe from Libby's website is receiving national attention as the world mourns the loss of one of country music most beloved icons. Jones' personally gave her this classic Southern recipe last year at The Johnny Cash Festival in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

The legendary country music superstar passed away Friday, April 26th, 2013. His celebration of life was held today at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.

A key recipe ingredient of the Sausage Ball recipe is George Jones Sausage that is made in partnership with Williams Sausage of Union City, Tennessee from an old Jones' family recipe. Spring Arts Festival May 4th in Casey Jones Village

(Jackson, TN) Art in the Village's Spring Arts Festival will be held this Saturday, May 4th from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm in Casey Jones Village. Originally planned for April 27th, the free outdoor festival was rescheduled due to rainy weather conditions last weekend.

Art in the Village is a co-op gallery of over 25 local artists. Gallery director Mary Spellings said over 60 local and regional art vendors will participate in the festival. Art in the Village will host an open house from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and a student art exposition as well as the outside show. There will be artist demonstrations including watercolor, pottery, acrylics and face painting. Follow the gallery on Facebook for all of the latest news at "Art in the Village".

Casey Jones Village is the home of Brooks Shaw's Old Country Store restaurant and gift shop, the historic Casey Jones Home & Railroad Museum, Providence House, an 1837 antebellum home events venue, the Village Chapel, the Village Shoppes and Casey Jones Mini-Golf. Art in the Village Arts Festival Announcement

Due to the weather forecast of rain and thunderstorms for Saturday, April 27th Art in the Village's Spring Arts Festival rain date will be Saturday, May 4th when sunny skies are expected. The art gallery director Mary Spellings felt it would be best for the safety of the over 60 vendors who will be participating. Art in the Village will be open Saturday, April 27th and the public is invited to visit them and enjoy the local art and inside demonstrations. Indoor activities will go forward Saturday, April 27th at Casey Jones Home & Railroad Museum, the Old Country Store and Music Highway Crossroads.

Spring Arts Festival to Celebrate Local Artists in Casey Jones Village

(Jackson, TN) Art in the Village gallery is sponsoring a Spring Arts Festival Saturday, April 27th in Casey Jones Village with over 60 local artists participating. Hours are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. It is being held in conjunction with the annual Casey Jones Village Spring Festival that celebrates local history. This is a free community event. Demonstrations by artists will include live pastel portraits, fingerprint painting, antler carving, watercolor painting, face painting, jewelry making, pottery and more. A special student art show will be held in the featured artist space at the Art in the Village gallery in Casey Jones Village for students of Laurie Denbrock, Mary Spellings and Kay Walker.

The Casey Jones Village Spring Festival is held the last Saturday in April each year and commemorates the famous last ride of railroad legend Casey Jones in April of 1900, the founding of Brooks Shaw's Old Country Store in April of 1965 and the founding of Casey Jones Village 35 years ago in 1978. There will be a variety of festivities including musical entertainment with the Jackson Area Plectral Society and activities at Brooks Shaw's Old Country Store, Casey Jones Home & Railroad Museum, Providence House, the Village Chapel, the Village Shoppes and Casey Jones Mini-Golf.

Wheels into Jackson April 19-21

(Jackson, TN) The 21st annual Bunny Run Car Show leaps back into Jackson April 19-21 with hundreds of street rods, custom cars and trucks from 1983 and earlier on display at Jackson Fairgrounds Park. The annual event is sponsored by the Jackson Rod & Custom Car Club and held each Spring in April.

There will be approximately 450 vehicles 30 years old and older participating in the show. There will also be a swap meet for used parts and numerous vendors inside at the show with a variety of merchandise.

The Bunny Run is open to the public on Saturday, April 20th from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and Sunday, April 21st from 8:00 am to 10:00 am. Admission is $4.00 per person and children 12 and under are free when accompanied by an adult. 100% of the gate proceeds go to the charity event.

The car show benefits the Underprivileged Children's Christmas Shopping Spree that allows needy children in Jackson and Madison County to go on a Christmas shopping spree for gifts and clothes they otherwise would not be able to afford.

Donations will also be accepted at the door. Jackson Fairgrounds Park is located in historic downtown Jackson, Tennessee at 800 South Highland Avenue.

The Bunny Run host hotel is the Econo Lodge next to Casey Jones Village on the Highway 45 By-pass at I-40 exit 80A. Additional participating hotels in Jackson are Comfort Suites also located next to Casey Jones Village, Guesthouse Inn, Quality Inn, All Suites Hotel and Best Western Carriage House.

Spring Arts Festival Set for April 27th in Casey Jones Village

(Jackson, TN) Art in the Village gallery is sponsoring a Spring arts festival Saturday, April 27th in conjunction with the Casey Jones Village Spring Festival held annually the last Saturday in April. What an incredible time we had at the 150th Birthday Celebration for Casey Jones on March 14th! We can't thank everyone enough for their support of this historic once in a lifetime event. We are so appreciative to so many people for their part in making the day a great success! Thank you to our special guests Nancy Howse, the granddaughter of Casey Jones, and Charles Howse, the great-grandson of Casey Jones. To Governor Bill Haslam for the State Proclamation. To Jackson Mayor Jerry Gist and Madison County Mayor Jimmy Harris for being with us and for the Casey Jones Day Proclamation. To Mr. and Mr. Jerry Ellis for sharing about his telegrapher exhibit in the exhibit hall.

Many thanks to the numerous members of the Jackson Area Plectral Society for providing entertainment throughout the day. To Molly Schlafer, Alison Lane, Judy Smith, Caitlin Roach and Trema Mitchell for their help with the refreshments and the reception. To our State and local tourism leaders Marty Marbry, Lori Nunnery and Mary Beth Hopper for attending and helping us promote the event as well as a number of museum and history friends who were with us that day. Casey Jones' 150th Birthday Celebration Set for March 14

(Jackson, Tenn.) - American railroad hero Jonathan Luther "Casey" Jones would have been 150 years old on Thursday, March 14th and the keepers of his legend in Jackson, Tennessee are planning a grand celebration at the Casey Jones Home & Railroad Museum in his honor. Festivities will be held March 14th from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm with a special kick-off ceremony at 10:00 am. Museum admission will be free that day with educational activities, refreshments, door prizes and musical entertainment with the Jackson Area Plectral Society, a local old-time music preservation club.

Casey Jones was born in 1863. His destiny was to heroically give his life saving all of his passengers in a train accident on April 30th, 1900 when a railcar was stalled on the track ahead. Ultimately, Jones became the world's most famous railroad engineer through the retelling of his heroics in "The Ballad of Casey Jones". continued...

Jones' railroad accident was around 4:00 am near Vaughan, Mississippi on a run from Memphis to Canton, Mississippi. He lived in Jackson, Tennessee with his wife, Janie, and three children at the time of his death at the age of 37.

On the tour of Casey Jones Museum guests can visit his family home. The "Train Station" expansion to the Museum is located right next to the home. The Jackson Room is dedicated to Jackson's rich railroad history and also serves as a community room for functions of all kinds. There is an exhibit hall and a special room dedicated to Casey Jones' famous last ride, a theater to view a short film on his story and a museum store. The Museum has a collection of three authentic railcars and children of all ages are welcome to climb aboard the Engine and ring the bell just like Casey.
