Casey Jones Museum to Welcome Actor Bobby Clark

(Jackson, TN) Actor Bobby Clark from California will have a special appearance at Casey Jones Home & Railroad Museum in Jackson Wednesday, May 30th. Clark portrayed Casey Jr. in the 1950's television series "Casey Jones" as the son of Casey and Janie Jones. Alan Hale Jr. portrayed Casey Jones and the series has played in the United States and around the world for decades. Clark has had a fascinating career in motion pictures and television in genres such as Westerns, Sci-Fi and dramas. He is in the area at the end of May for Western Clippings and the Memphis Film Festival, a TV reunion of Western actors, that will be in Olive Branch, Mississippi. Born in 1944 he moved from Seattle to Los Angeles with his parents to pursue an acting career at the age of 10. He has an impressive list of acting credits working with many well known actors. Clark will be available for a Meet & Greet from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 30th in the Jackson Room at Casey Jones Museum. Casey Jones was a railroad engineer who lived in Jackson who became an internationally known icon due to his heroic last ride on April 30th, 1900. Celebrate Art Festival Plans Announced

(Jackson, TN) Art in the Village, a local art gallery in Casey Jones Village, is hosting the 2nd annual "Celebrate Art Festival" in conjunction with Casey Jones Day on Saturday, April 28th from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm featuring art by more than 30 regional artists. Don't miss this chance to meet the artists and see hands-on demonstrations. You'll see jewelry artists, potters, glass artists, painters in watercolor, acrylic and oil, wood-turners, wood carvers and fiber artists. The rain date is May 5th.

Art in the Village is a non-profit corporation dedicated to the mission of sharing the love of Christ through the visual arts. The gallery provides educational opportunities in art, a place for artists to share their creations and a place for artists to come together to support each other. Deborah Shaw Laman, Casey Jones Village marketing director, said, "Art in the Village has remarkably talented artists and artisans represented in the gallery. Wheels into Jackson April 20-22

(Jackson, TN) The 20th annual Bunny Run Car Show leaps back into Jackson April 20-22 with hundreds of street rods, custom cars and trucks from 1972 and prior on display at Jackson Fairgrounds Park. The annual event is sponsored by the Jackson Rod & Custom Car Club and is held each Spring in April near Easter.

Organizers estimate that approximately 400 to 500 cars will be attending this year from over 12 states bringing 1,000 to 1,500 people to Jackson. There will also be vendors and a swap meet area at the car show.

The Bunny Run is open to the public on Saturday, April 21st from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and Sunday, April 22nd from 8:00 am to 10:30 am. Admission is $4.00 per person and children 12 and under are free when accompanied by an adult. 100% of the gate proceeds go to the charity event. It benefits the Underprivileged Children's Christmas Shopping Spree that allows needy children in Jackson and Madison County to go on a Christmas shopping spree for gifts and clothes they otherwise would not be able to afford. Donations will also be accepted at the door. Fairgrounds Park is located in historic downtown Jackson, Tennessee at 800 South Highland Avenue.

The Bunny Run host hotel is the Econo Lodge next to Casey Jones Village. Additional participating hotels in Jackson are Comfort Suites also located next to Casey Jones Village, Guesthouse Inn, Quality Inn, All Suites Hotel and Best Western Carriage House.

Carl Perkins Historical Marker Installed in

Casey Jones Village

(Jackson, TN) In honor of the musical legend and genius of Carl Perkins, we are very proud to announce, on his birthday, April 9th, the installation of the Tennessee Historical Commission marker honoring Carl Perkins in front of Music Highway Crossroads in Casey Jones Village. It was previously located on the site of his former restaurant, Suede's, on Highland Avenue in Jackson. Due to the efforts of Old Country Store CEO Clark Shaw, Casey Jones Village was given permission to relocate the historical marker in front of Music Highway Crossroads. The live music venue and store is dedicated to celebrating the musical roots of West Tennessee. The Crossroads stage is one that Carl Perkins and his brothers played on at the El Rancho club in Jackson at the beginning of their musical careers. It is on loan from W. S. Holland, a well known Jackson musician who had a famed 40 year career as Johnny Cash's drummer and is actively performing today. Music Highway Crossroads is located at 40 Casey Jones Lane in Jackson, Tennessee at I-40 exit 80A.

Carl Perkins was born in 1932. He achieved super stardom as a

Rock-a-billy singer and songwriter during his musical career. He lived in Jackson most of his life until his death in 1998. The marker in his honor reads, "Called the "Rockabilly King" and a "Rock 'n' Roll" architect, singer-songwriter Carl Perkins was born in Lake County on April 9, 1932. In 1955, he wrote and recorded the celebrated rock 'n' roll classic, "Blue Suede Shoes". A powerful artist, he influenced numerous popular musicians including Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Jimi Hendrix, the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Wynonna Judd and Garth Brooks. Perkins was inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. He was entombed in the mausoleum at Ridgecrest Cemetery after his death on January 19, 1998."

Side two reads: "A strong advocate for the prevention of child abuse, Carl Perkins worked with the Jackson Exchange Club to establish the first center for the prevention of child abuse in Tennessee and the fourth in the nation. Proceeds from a concert planned by Perkins were combined with a grant from the National Exchange Club to establish the Exchange Club/Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse in October 1981. For years its annual Circle of Hope Telethon generated one quarter of the center's annual operating budget." This tradition continues today in Jackson and West Tennessee with the important work of the Exchange Club/Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse. http://carlperkinscenter.org/index.html

April is an exciting month in Casey Jones Village as we celebrate many milestones - Casey Jones Day that commemorates the life and legend of railroad hero Casey Jones, the founding of the Old Country Store in 1965 and the founding of Casey Jones Village in 1978. We'll be having a day of festivities along with the Celebrate Art festival at the Art in the Village gallery and the Casey Jones Days old-time music jam with the Jackson Area Plectral Society. In this unprecedented event, a listenership of 1.5 million people enjoyed a four hour broadcast from the Music Highway Crossroads stage. Plans Announced

(Jackson, TN) All aboard for family fun as Casey Jones Village prepares to celebrate Casey Jones Day on Saturday, April 28th. Casey Jones Home & Railroad Museum is offering free admission to all guests that day. Festivities will include guest experts on telegraphy and model railroading, children's activities, drawings for door prizes and more from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The Jackson Area Plectral Society, dedicated to preserving old-time string music, will be entertaining with live music throughout the Village during the day. In conjunction with Casey Jones Day, Art in the Village will be hosting a Celebrate Art festival with local artists and artisans throughout the day at the gallery.

This year Brooks Shaw & Son Old Country Store celebrates 47 years in business. The local landmark first opened in April of 1965 at 514 Poplar (now Airways) and has since been enjoyed by millions of guests from around the globe. The Old Country Store is dedicated to preserving Southern history. It is the mission of the Old Country Store to save the historic treasures of our past and the South's rich culinary heritage for future generations.

Casey Jones' famous last ride took place almost 112 years ago on April 30th, 1900. Jones, a railroad engineer for Illinois Central, was headed toward Vaughan, Mississippi on his new route from Memphis when another train stalled on the track ahead. Staying at his post, he heroically saved the lives on all of his crew and passengers on board and his was the only life lost. An engine wiper named Wallace Saunders set Jones' actions to song and the eventual popularity of the "Ballad of Casey Jones" made Jones a world wide folk hero and legend.

(Murfreesboro, TN) As the 150^th anniversary of the Civil War gets into full swing this year, the Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area has enlarged its traveling exhibition on emancipation. Two new panels focus on the fight for freedom in West Tennessee, where a groundbreaking contraband camp was established in Grand Junction in November 1862. The enhanced exhibition will debut at the Casey Jones Home and Railroad Museum on Friday, February 3^rd and be on view through March 20th, 2012 as a part of the Museum tour. Museum admission is $6.50, Seniors $5.50 and children 6-12 $4.50.

Entitled “Free at Last!” the 4-panel exhibition emphasizes the significance of emancipation as a result of the Civil War. “Free at Last!” provides an introduction to the joys and challenges shared by African Americans in Tennessee during the aftermath of slavery. The exhibition looks at the intersection of Union military action and the influx of former slaves to Union lines in West Tennessee, which provides an important case study of wartime emancipation. The Reconstruction years were crucial to the development of African American communities throughout Tennessee. Former slaves founded scores of schools and churches. “Free at Last” highlights some of the emancipation communities that are wonderfully preserved in our state.

The exhibition debuted in February in 2007 and has since traveled to the Roy Bailey African American History Center in Lebanon, the Sam Davis Home in Smyrna, the Granville Museum in Jackson County, the McLemore House Museum in Franklin, Oaklands Historic House Museum in Murfreesboro, the Rutherford County Archives in Murfreesboro, the Great Smoky Mountain Heritage Center in Townsend, the Germantown Regional History and Genealogical Center, several churches in the Denmark and Mercer communities in West Tennessee, the Discovery Museum of West Tennessee in Jackson, the Green McAdoo Cultural Center in Clinton, the James E. Walker Library at Middle Tennessee State University and Margaret Allen Middle School in Nashville. In addition, the exhibition has been on view at the Legacy of Stones River Symposium in Murfreesboro, the Civil War Preservation Trust Summer Teacher Institute in Chattanooga, the National Trust for Historic Preservation Conference in Nashville, the International Heritage Development Conference in Charleston, S.C., the MTSU Scholars Week Exposition in Murfreesboro, and the Journey from Slavery to Freedom: Emancipation During and After the Civil War Social Studies Camp in Murfreesboro.

“Our goal is to tell the whole story of the Civil War and Reconstruction in Tennessee,” says Laura Holder, federal liaison for the Heritage Area. “These venues are terrific places to tell the emancipation story.” The Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area receives funding from the National Park Service and is administered by the Center for Historic Preservation at Middle Tennessee State University.

Blink® Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

Green Ribbon Cutting Event January 12th

(JACKSON, TN) Officials with Casey Jones Village have announced the installation of three charging stations for electric vehicles, the only location between Memphis & Nashville currently offering this service. Owners with Casey Jones Village, local stakeholders and ECOtality, the project administrator and a leader in clean transportation and storage technologies, will have a Green Ribbon Cutting and press conference for The EV Project's Blink® electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at 1:30 pm on Thursday, January 12th at 56 Casey Jones Lane in Jackson. Casey Jones Village's Blink charging station is the first publicly available charging station installed in West Tennessee outside Shelby County.

Casey Jones Village offers three Blink Level 2 charging stations and can accommodate the all‐electric Nissan LEAF. “We are so proud to be a part of this progressive initiative. It is sustainable tourism at its finest,” Clark Shaw, Old Country Store CEO, said. He continued, "With our travel attraction on Interstate 40 at exit 80A, we feel this is an ideal and convenient location. We wanted Jackson to be a leader in this important program as the country builds the electric car charging infrastructure and helps our country decrease our dependence on foreign oil. ECOtality's goal is to bring electric vehicle charging options throughout the state of Tennessee to ultimately achieve complete coverage of I-40 from end to end. We first learned of the ECOtotality program at a Tennessee Department of Tourist Development Sustainable Tourism workshop held at the Old Country Store."

"The Tennessee Hospitality Association and our local association members are very excited to support green initiatives across the state such as the EV Project,” stated Greg Adkins, CEO of the Tennessee Hospitality Association that is the advocacy voice for the lodging and dining establishments in Tennessee. “As the second largest industry in the state, the hospitality industry is a natural market for consumers to use electronic transportation," Adkins added.

The EV Project is the largest deployment of electric vehicles and charge infrastructure in history. As project manager of The EV Project, San Francisco‐based ECOtality is overseeing the deployment of approximately 14,000 charging stations throughout America. The project is funded by the U. S. Department of Energy.

We hope you and yours had a wonderful Christmas! Thank you to all the families who joined for our 27th annual Christmas Eve Breakfast. It was another remarkable year. Named a Top 20 event in the Southeast by the Southeast Tourism Society, the festivities and fun continue with the 27th annual Old Country Store Christmas Eve Breakfast Saturday, December 24th complete with live musical entertainment and a visit from Santa Claus. Each year, as a gift to the city, we serve our world famous Southern breakfast buffet including a hot beverage for only $3.99. Children 12 and under are $1.99.

We are very proud to announce that our 2011 Christmas Eve Breakfast non-profit guest is the West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation. The Foundation has more than 400 funds established to assist local causes. Clark Shaw, Old Country Store CEO, said, "Each year at the Breakfast we invite a local charitable group to recognize their contribution to the community. Attendance each year is around 2,000 people for what has become a favorite Christmas Eve tradition among West Tennessee area families. The Old Country Store hours will be 6:30 am to 2:00 pm for breakfast with the Gift Shoppe closing at 3:00 pm. The Museum will be open from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on Christmas Eve. Our recent Open House was a great success! We had a wonderful time as we officially kicked off the Christmas season. Many thanks to our staff for all their hard work, our gratitude to the granddaughter of Casey Jones Nancy Howse, to the many musicians who entertained at the Old Country Store, Music Highway Crossroads and Casey Jones Museum including Steve Patterson, Wildwood Express, Highway 54, Jargon, the Appleton Family Band, Michael King and Spector. Monday, November 28th we enjoyed a reading and book signing at Casey Jones Museum with Ben Mandrell, Senior Pastor at Englewood Baptist Church, and Josh Brunet, Director of Communications, at Englewood. They signed copies of their book "When Pigs Fly" written by Ben Mandrell and illustrated by Josh Brunet (pictured above: Pastor Ben is on the left and Josh is on the right). Casey Jones Museum to Host Book Signing with
Ben Mandrell and Josh Brunet!

(Jackson, TN) Jackson pastor, Ben Mandrell of Englewood Baptist Church, and Jackson artist and illustrator, Joshua S. Brunet, have recently published their first children’s book with BorderStone Press, LLC entitled, When Pigs Fly. They will be having a reading and book signing at 4:00 pm on Monday, November 28th at Casey Jones Home & Railroad Museum in Casey Jones Village in Jackson.

David Dockery, President of Union University, in Jackson said, “If you want to help your children and grandchildren begin to learn about the value of friendships, the power of dreams and vision, and the enablement of God for all aspects of life, I recommend that you read this charming little book to them. Ben Mandrell and Joshua Brunet are to be commended for this wonderful story, which is so beautifully communicated and illustrated. I have no doubt that children (and those who read to them) will enjoy reading this book over and over again.”

Ben Mandrell is married and has four young children. He is the Senior Pastor of Englewood Baptist Church in Jackson. Ben’s passion is to preach the Word of God in such a way that lives are changed for eternity. The mission of Englewood is to lead people to love God, love others, and to serve the world.

Joshua S. Brunet is married and has three young children. He currently lives in Oakfield and is the Director of Communications at Englewood Baptist Church. He is also an adjunct instructor for a design class at Union University. He does freelance illustration work for The Jackson Symphony, Trinity Christian Academy, and LifeWay’s Mature Living Magazine.
