It is the mission of the Old Country Store to save the historic treasures of our past and the South's rich culinary heritage for future generations.
Casey Jones' famous last ride took place almost 112 years ago on April 30th, 1900. Jones, a railroad engineer for Illinois Central, was headed toward Vaughan, Mississippi on his new route from Memphis when another train stalled on the track ahead. Staying at his post, he heroically saved the lives on all of his crew and passengers on board and his was the only life lost. An engine wiper named Wallace Saunders set Jones' actions to song and the eventual popularity of the "Ballad of Casey Jones" made Jones a world wide folk hero and legend.
