Baptist Genealogical Conference August 6th!

Tennessee Baptist Historical Society to Hold Genealogical Conference at Casey Jones Village

(Jackson, TN) The Tennessee Baptist Historical Society is offering a genealogical conference entitled “Finding Your Baptist Ancestors”. The conference will be held Saturday, August 6th, 2011 at Casey Jones Village in Jackson. Registration will be held at 8:30 a.m. at the historic Casey Jones Home & Railroad Museum located on the grounds of Casey Jones Village at 30 Casey Jones Lane.

Sessions will take place in the Theatre at Casey Jones Museum and provide information on finding Baptist ancestors on the frontier, using court records, Baptist manuscripts and other genealogical resources.
They will begin at 9:00 a.m. and conclude at 4:00 p.m.
with a tour of Casey Jones Village. A complimentary lunch from the Old Country Store is included for those who attend as part of the $35 conference registration. The Village tour includes the 105 year old historic Brown Creek church relocated to the Village last year from Haywood County and founded by the legendary Baptist pastor Obadiah Dodson.

Presenters include some of the most noted genealogists in the South including J. Mark Lowe, a full-time professional genealogist, author and teacher from Springfield, Tennessee; Albert Wardin Jr., professor emeritus from Belmont University in Nashville and author of twelve books on Baptist history; Jenny Lowery, the archivist at Union University in Jackson, Tennessee and Tim Bass, pastor of Mercer Baptist Church in Mercer, Tennessee who will have a theatrical presentation about Rev. Obadiah Dodson.
