Cemetery Walk Planned for
Historic Denmark Church

(Denmark, TN)  The Big Black Creek Historical Association is planning a Cemetery Walk in the Old Denmark Cemetery at Denmark Presbyterian Church on Saturday, October 24th.  The church is located in the Denmark community approximately 10 miles south of the McKellar- Sipes Regional Airport.  It is on Highway 223 off Interstate 40 exit 76 in West Madison County near Jackson.  It will be a late afternoon event into the night beginning at 4:30 pm.

About fourteen characters who are members of the Historical Association will be in the cemetery telling stories about the 1800's and early 1900's. The cemetery will be lit by candle light all evening. Visitors will ride by wagons from the Denmark post office parking lot to the church.  Local historian dNEnglish will be telling ghost stories at the church.  The 7th Tennessee Calvary will be on hand with their horses and a campsite. This is a fundraiser for the Society with the cost being only $5.00 per person.

The Big Black Creek Historical Association (BBCHA) was founded in 2006 with the express purpose to identify, preserve and promote historical sites with the communities of Denmark, Mercer, Leighton and Woodland ~ all small towns west of Jackson, Tennessee.

The BBCHA's name came from the Big Black Creek, a waterway that figured prominently in the early settlement of the area and the American Civil War.

The BBCHA is a 501(c)3 organization and is run by an all-volunteer group under the leadership of president Bill King.  Contributions to the BBCHA are invested in the restoration and preservation of historic sites in these areas. Efforts include restoring several cemeteries, historic homes and the newly restored BBCHA's meeting place at the Mercer (Ebenezer) Cumberland Presbyterian Church built in 1910.
