Casey Jones Museum Grand Opening Friday, Saturday & Sunday October 16th, 17th & 18th!

Since our opening day in June, we have been looking forward to our official Grand Opening and it's almost here!  We are planning an exciting weekend ahead starting Friday, October 16th at 2 pm with our Opening Ceremonies to be held in the Casey Jones Museum Theatre.  After a short program, we will be unveiling a brand new exhibit in our exhibit hall followed by a reception and tours of the Museum and Home.  When we opened our 8,000 square foot addition June 19th, the Home of Casey Jones was closed for renovation of the rooms that had formerly held exhibits.  We reopened the Home the 4th of July weekend and invite you to come take a tour.

Admission will be free at the Museum from 1 pm to 3 pm Friday and $5.00 for adults and seniors Friday, Saturday and Sunday, October 16th, 17th & 18th, 2009 except for the free hours just mentioned.  We think you will love our new train station building and train store.

We are going to have several extra special guests with us Friday. You will have an opportunity to meet the granddaughter of Casey Jones, Nancy Howse, and Pat Jones, Casey Jones' great-granddaughter at our Opening Ceremonies at 2 pm.  We are also happy that the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development Commissioner, Susan Whitaker, will be with us Friday. We are very honored to have these ladies at our Grand Opening.  We also are very honored to have Mayor Jerry Gist and County Mayor Jimmy Harris scheduled to attend and well as a number of state and local dignitaries.

We have lots of festivities in store for the celebration.  Granpa Cratchet & his Puppetmobile will be with us Friday for the Opening Ceremonies at 2 pm.  Gotta see it to believe it!  We will have live musical entertainment provided by the Jackson Area Plectral Society from 1 pm to 3 pm Friday, music from the Casey Jones Barbershop Chorus Quartet Friday, live music Saturday at the Museum at 1 pm with Ken Mallard and Sunday the Googe Family - Three Generations will be with us from 2 to 4 pm in the Museum in the Jackson Room.

Rosie Robertson, a local storyteller, will be with us Friday and Saturday at 2 pm in the Museum. David Burke will be dressed as a conductor and meeting and greeting throughout the weekend. We will have Civil War re-enactors from Savannah, Tennessee in the field behind the Old Country Store at the Casey Jones Village Amphitheatre with a Living History demonstration on Saturday and Sunday.

The new art studios, Art in the Village and the Little Artist Studio, will be open in the Shoppes at Casey Jones Village as well as the other Shoppes of course and the Old Country Store. We will have the Casey Jones Train Ride in the Village from noon to 3 pm on Saturday and a few other surprises. Be sure to register for a free night's stay donated by the beautiful new Comfort Suites, our new next door neighbor, while at the Museum as well as for other great door prizes.

Bring the family and come explore the life and legend of Casey Jones and celebrate this beautiful new addition to the Jackson, Tennessee community.
