Plans Announced for the Casey Jones Old-time & Bluegrass Music Festival
Posted July 10th, 2009: We're happy to announce the plans for the 12th annual Casey Jones Old-time & Bluegrass Music Festival. This year it's going to all be held in "downtown" Casey Jones Village with jammin' on Thursday night and Friday outside of the Old Country Store with stage performances on Saturday in the beautiful new theatre at the Casey Jones Museum. We always enjoy the wonderful music on Thursday nights with the Plectral Society and this annual festival is a great way to celebrate old-time music. Here is the press release:

Old-Time & Bluegrass Music Festival
(Jackson, TN) It's full steam ahead for a fun filled weekend at the Casey Jones Old-Time & Bluegrass Music Festival September 10th, 11th and 12th brought to you by the Jackson Area Plectral Society. This year the Thursday night weekly Plectral Society Club Jam will be included in the 12th annual festival. Jammin' throughout the Casey Jones Village grounds has been expanded to Friday too.
Festival officials announced a brand new location for the Saturday stage performances this year at the historic Casey Jones Home & Railroad Museum in the theatre of the new 8,000 square foot "Train Station" expansion that opened June 19th. Outside jammin' festivities are free on Thursday and Friday with a nominal $5.00 admission on Saturday for the stage music that includes the full Casey Jones Museum tour.
The festival is sponsored by the Jackson Area Plectral Society, a non-profit 501 C-3 organization made up of musicians and supporters dedicated to the promotion and preservation of traditional old-time string music. Club president is John Few. Stage performances by Plectral Society members will include old-time bluegrass, old-time gospel and old-time mountain and folk music.

The club holds two festivals each year. The Spring festival is in Dyersburg and the fall festival in Casey Jones Village. The group annually gives our scholarships to young musicians to further their studies for music lessons for acoustic instruments. Club members are also actively involved in volunteer and charity work all over West Tennessee and attend and play in bluegrass festivals all over the region.
