We hope you are already planning on coming to Celtic Fest on Saturday, November 1st!  It will be a wonderful festival from 9 am to 4:30 pm at the Casey Jones Village Amphitheatre behind the Old Country Store.   We are hosting a special event that morning with Slow Food Memphis...a chapter of an organization we belong to...in our restaurant.

What's Slow Food?  Think of it as the opposite of Fast Food.  First started in Italy in 1989 when a fast food restaurant opened in a historic district of Rome, it's a non-profit international educational organization who's purpose is to bring people back to the pleasures of the table by supporting food traditions of the area, local farmers, local producers, farmers markets, etc. We are members of the closest Slow Food USA chapter to Jackson in Memphis.  There are over 200 chapters in America.  It's all about Eating Local and supporting local farmers and we do in both by using produce from the West Tennessee Farmers Market whenever possible and selling local Tennessee products in our Gift Shoppe such as sorghum, Tennessee country ham and honey to name a few.  Slow Food members include culinary professionals, farmers and food producers and generally food enthusiasts.  www.slowfoodmemphis.com

We are so excited to be hosting our first event with the Memphis chapter on Saturday, November 1st - a Sorghum and Biscuit Tasting at 10 am.  Clark Shaw, our CEO, came up with the perfect name for the event...."Sorghum - The Ultimate Slow Food".   How great is that?  We plan to have guests from Slow Food Memphis join us and a couple of speakers from the local farming community.  Stop by and see us if you'd like to learn more about the work of Slow Food USA and be sure to spend the day with your family in the Village with the marvelous Celtic Fest.  The Celtic Society of West Tennessee has planned another excellent festival and we are honored to be the site of it again this year.  See you November 1st for a great day at Casey Jones Village!
